Trickle-down politics has failed. It's time for a new approach — one built on a down ballot strategy at scale, rooted in trickle-up powerbuilding. That means grounding our work in the needs of everyday people, uplifting communities, and building infrastructure to support candidates at every level.

Local Democracy Project is building a national movement to elect and resource thousands of local leaders. We're shifting political culture, investing in down ballot champions fighting for working people, and growing a powerful ecosystem of organizations across the country. We focus on small to mid-sized towns and local races in battleground congressional districts. Electing local leaders boosts state and federal win rates by 2–4%. By building organizing infrastructure in key swing districts, we create a win-win, from the ground up.

why local democracy project?

Did you know there are over 100,000 local elected offices across the United States?

For decades, Republicans have invested heavily in winning many of these seats, creating what we call the "Barry Goldwater Effect." Our goal is to reverse that trend by supporting and expanding local powerbuilding organizations—both by strengthening existing efforts and creating new ones in underrepresented regions.
